As a Teacher, I need a way to see how my students literacy skills are improving while using Stackup. I need to see which students are reading at grade level, above grade level, and most importantly below grade level. I need to be able to track the students progress over periods of time. In addition, I need to see what the most popular career development tracks are so that I can alter my curriculum to facilitate more individualized lesson plans. It would be nice to have a way to see how each classroom is doing too -this will help me see which teachers are most effective at improving students literacy skills.

Step 1. Planning

Kick-off meeting

  • Identify key stakeholders and invite them to a formal kick-off meeting
  • Discover the 5W’s for the feature
  • Lead an open discussion on how to best facilitate the users needs and business goals
  • Outline how to measure success by using the Google H.E.A.R.T. framework

Project plan

  • Outline; key deliverables needed inform design decisions, who is responsible for completing them, when they were due and how we’ll communicate (e.g. setting expectations)

Step 2. Research

Individual interviews

  • This new feature was inspired by feedback from an existing “highly-influential” power user
  • Interview users to gain more insight on what their goals are and what data points need to be extracted

Competitive analysis

  • Study several direct and non-direct competitors solutions for similar features and design patterns
  • Capture screenshots of workflows
  • Design a competitive landscape matrix

Step 3. Design

Conceptual design

  • Design high-fidelity mockups (skip wireframes)

Step 4. Test & Refine

  • Present the mockup to and re-interview the original “highly-influential” power user for feedback
  • Currently awaiting feedback…

Step 5. Release

  • The School Report Card Design is a work in progress…

Step 6. Measure & Report

  • Implement Google Analytics
  • Measure happiness by surveys, interviews, and contextual inquiries (user journey mapping)
  • Measure engagement by time spent on the new page for the user type within the next 30 days
  • Measure adoption by what percentage of the user type were targeting will visit this new page within the next 30 days
  • Measure retention by how often the user type re-visits the page within the next 30 days
  • Measure time on task by analyzing workflows and contextual inquiries
  • Reanalyze data every thirty days, compare it to the previous period, look for insights
  • Send monthly high-level reports (with visuals) to key stakeholders
